Ballyferriter

Ballyferriter, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh meaning ‘the village of the Ferriters’ or An Bualitín meaning ‘the little dairy place’. 

The village is named after the Norman-Irish Feiritéar family who settled in the parish in the thirteenth century. In the seventeenth century poet and executed leader, Piaras Feirtéar, remains the most famous member of the family. It is also a village that supported and housed the film production crew of Star Wars as they filmed on the Ceann Sibéal headland on the Dingle Peninsula.
