Aghadoe

Aghadoe, in Gaelic Irish Achadh an Dá Eo meaning ‘The place of the two Yew trees’ is located just a short drive outside of Killarney town. 

It is a majestic viewing point that overlooks Killarney town, mountains, lakes and islands, including Innisfallen Island. The ruins of 13th century Parkavonear Castle and of Aghadoe Cathedral and an old Romanesque church in ruins but significantly with Yew Trees surrounding it. The Yew tree was an important symbol in Celtic belief in that it protected their forts from evil spirits and wild animals. This belief was adopted by Christianity and now you can still find them in churchyards.
