Slieve League Cliffs

At 596 metres (1,955 ft) the extraordinary Sliabh Liag (Slieve League) which is located on the south west coast of County Donegal, has some of the highest sea cliffs on the island of Ireland.

Feast your eyes upon some of the best sea cliff views in Europe and marvel at the terrific views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Sligo Mountains and Donegal Bay. It is believed that they were a place for pilgrimage before the arrival of Christianity to Ireland, with ancient stone remains dotted around the area.

  2. There are remains of an early Christian monastic site here which include remnants of early beehive huts and the remains of a chapel.
  3. On a clear day, you can get a spectacular view of Ben Bulben all the way in County Sligo.
  4. You can see an ÉIRE marker at Slieve League, which were dotted along the west coast of Ireland and utilised during World War II.
  5. The cliffs are a haven for wildlife due to its unique and colourful plant life which attract thousands of birds to the sheer ledges. If you are lucky, in the sea below, you can see dolphins, seals and even basking sharks.
