In 2020, Galway will be the European Capital of Culture. It is situated in the west of Ireland but it is not only a city but also a County. This city is also called ’’The city of Tribes’’ It is one of the city most famous in Ireland, so if you come to Ireland and want to be overwhelmed by the Irish spirit, you have to be at least one time in Galway. In this city, there are many Irish speakers, amazing culture, music and dance are also very present.
We are sure that you are asking for the weather, but it is the same as all of Ireland, in one day you can see the rain and the sun, so take care and bring your umbrella and your cap with you to be ready for both.
At the beginning of your day, you can have a coffee in one of the many restaurants of Galway city.
If you choose a good season, you will enjoy the numerous festivals of Galway such as the Galway international Oyster and Seafood festival. But it is not the only one that you have to discover.
If you want to come to Galway, the first thing that you have to do is go to see the Aran islands.
Inishmore, Inishmaan and Inisheer are the three islands located on the west coast of Galway that you can reach by ferry (40 minutes) from Galway and you will enjoy the wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Galway City Museum
If you are in the city and don’t go to the museums, you are not truly experiencing the city, so if you want to go to Galway, you have to visit its museum which are free from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00.
You will see on three floors many historical, archeological and sea science exhibits of Galway.
Spanish Arch
For the historical part of the city, you have also got to go and see the Spanish Arch which was built in the 16th century. It was originally an extension of the famous city walls, designed to protect the quays. It is also a part of the Galway City Museum.
During the night, you could stay in a pub and drink a pint of Guinness but before, for the dinner, you could choose between the many restaurants that you will find in the city centre.
After the historical part, you could ‘relax’ in the city. Saturday is one of the best day to go to Galway because of its market with many traders of local products.
Eyre Square Centre
If you want to relax, this centre is the better place to go with its 70 shops included many brands of restaurants and also for clothes.
If doing shopping is not your favourite thing, you could also go to the Connemara National Park and enjoy all that nature has to offer to you!
