Adventures on the Wild Atlantic Way

Wild Atlantic Way

It is the beginning of July ,2016 and the world is an unstoppable force of optimism, enthusiasm and anticipation when we think of global events such as The 2016 UEFA European Championship,Rio Olympics 2016 in Brazil and United States Presidential Elections in November. We are looking to a future full of good things such as promise, belief and ambition. Here in Ireland, the Wild Atlantic Way route can hold similar assurance and brightness and the following are my choices for perfect adventures this July.

Why not cycle the Great Western Greenway in County Mayo. This greenway rail trail starts in Westport and ends in Achill and along its 42 kilometers you can take in spectacular views of Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay as well Nephin Beg mountain range. Originally a railway line beginning in Westport until extended further in 1890 to Achill, with eventual closer in 1943.This is an excellent adventure along the Wild Atlantic Way, is free to cycle or walk and also is open 364 days of the year. Choosing cycling can lead to many health benefits such as improved muscle strength and flexibility, lower stress, body fat and cholesterol as well as better cardiovascular fitness.

Or maybe, Lahinch Surf School, on the Wild Atlantic Way in County Clare. Here you will find a top surfing destination, perfect waves and sandy beaches. This Surf School was founded in 2002 by John McCarthy, a former Irish Champion and Pro-surfer who has competed in European and World Surfing Championships. Based in the Mid-West of Ireland, it offers a complete surf experience with weekend surf courses, surf camps for teenagers and kids as well as weekend hotel package deals. This Lahinch surf school has world class surfing from February to November, expertly trained instructors and is a totally fun, enjoyable and exciting experience for anyone willing to try something new.

Another wonderful activity choice on the Wild Atlantic Way is golfing at Doonbeg Golf Course in County Clare. This golf course was designed by Champion golfer Greg Norman, was opened officially in 2002 and on this world renowned 18 hole course, a normal round take about 4 hours, 30 minutes. Doonbeg golf  course is part of the 5 Star Trump International Golf & Links Hotel.Puchased in 2014 by U.S. Politician, Businessman and philanthropist Donald Trump, it cost 9 million euros, is set on 400 acres and has 218 hotel suites. Other than the thrill of a world class round of golf, Doonbeg offers golf lessons, a driving range and also golf shop. Finally, Donegal Equestrian Centre in Bundoran,County Donegal is perfect for horse riding in the North-West of Ireland. With beach/trail rides, pony camps and riding instruction lessons offered seven days a week, you will be amazed and delighted with some of the most beautiful and captivating scenery in Ireland.

This summer, you have the freedom, good fortune and opportunity to discover the best of the Wild Atlantic Way in the beautiful emerald isle. Why not make the most of what we have right now.
